The last few weeks of my life have been the most hectic ever
The last few weeks of my life have been the most hectic ever. Every day has been filled with work from the moment I wake up until the moment I get my average three-hour nightly sleep. I've dealt with this schedule fairly well. In fact, things are going so well, one of my friends suggested I change the name of the blog to something more positive. I can't. It's a reminder that cancer's devastation is all around me. I don't write about the big C every day, but in these past two years I've seen that I can easily be one phone call, tweet, or email away from grim cancer news.
This blog has helped me get through the scariest moments of my life and serendipitously became a source of insight for others dealing with this rapacious vile disease. Walking on Planet C allows us to virtually hold hands and go through the experience together.
Years ago, I was up for a Producer of the Year award. I didn't get it, but one of the voters suggested, "Maybe Nile Rodgers should get a special award for sheer volume alone?"
In 2012/13 I've even outpaced myself. Artistic output goes in cycles. I'm cycling like I'm in the Tour de France. Some philosophical friends have explained my behavior as "trying to outrun death" - but at least I'm trying and running. To me this feels like life - which is the opposite of death.
I've been working on a vast number of records, films, TV and radio shows, live-concerts, speeches and conferences. I can't share all of the details of these projects but there have been many wonderfully exciting moments.
Until you hear otherwise, I'll keep on Going and Going. But for now - I'm Not Going To Die.
