Un petit cliché rapide avec le spectacle de CHIC
Ce soir, juste avant le spectacle de CHIC on a pris un petit cliché rapide. Je pouvais entendre l'orchestre jouer Beethoven's Fifth Symphony en arrière plan. Ironique - à plusieurs degrés.
Par le passé, avant les tubes de CHIC, le génie musical Walter Murphy a retravaillé brillamment cette célèbre symphonie et l'a rebaptisée "A Fifth of Beethoven" par Walter Murphy and the Big Apple Band. On s'appelait The Big Apple Band mais la réussite de Walter nous a forcé à changer notre nom en CHIC.
Notre tournée germanique nous emmène dans des villes semblables à celles de la tournée de The Big Apple Band avec New York City ("I'm Doing Fine Now"). Il y a tellement de choses qui me donnent l'impression que la boucle de ma vie est bouclée que c'en est un peu effrayant.
Je pense à Luther Vandross, Raymond Jones, Tony Thompson et spécialement à Bernard Edwards, qui trouveraient ce RDV du CHIC tour Très Drôle et Très Etrange.
L'agenda de notre tournée allemande. A peu de choses près les mêmes villes que la dernière tournée du Big Apple Band

"Hotel Motel Holiday Inn," a été le refrain que j'ai chanté quand j'ai regardé par la fenêtre ce matin. C'est comme ça que fonctionne mon esprit. Je vois quelquechose, ici le drapeau, et une chanson me vient en tête.
"Rapper's Delight" est toujours prête à sortir, pas seulement car elle est un de mes plus gros succès mais parce qu'elle contient tellement paroles! Dès que je démarre la chanson, je ne m'arrête plus jusqu'à la fin.
Après mes tâches quotidiennes dans le business center, j'ai regardé l'agenda de demain, qui me montre que j'ai une interview demain. Dès que j'ai vu le mot 'interview' mon DJ interne démarre: "I was walking home late one dark afternoon, reporter stopped me for an interview. I said, 'By the way baby what's your name,' she said, 'I go by the name of Louis Lane. And you can be my boyfriend, you surely can. Just let me quit my boyfriend called Superman.' I said"... et jusqu'à la fin de la chanson.
Et puis je lis que mon interview se déroulera dans mon (here we go again) Hotel Motel...etc!

Joyeux Thanksgiving! Aujourd'hui, je suis à Hamburg avec les filles de CHIC afin de nous préparer pour un mois de tournée en Allemagne. Nous tournerons avec Seal, Alyson Moyet et Stanfour pour Night of the Proms. Je sauterai quelques fois vers l'angleterre pour la promotion de mes mémoires "Le Freak."
Ces derniers jours, j'ai partagé des vidéos qui m'ont été inspirées par le message surprise de John Landis. Il a réalisé pas mal de films notables, dont celui avec Eddie Murphy "Coming to America" qui a été le premier film pour lequel j'ai fait les arrangements musicaux.
C'est fou de voir l'impact qu'a eu ce film sur la pop-culture et j'en explique les détails de la création musicale dans mes mémoires.
La toute fin du livre se passe la veille de Thanksgiving, l'an passé. Je venais juste d'être diagnostiqué d'un cancer agressif et j'étais en route vers Las Vegas pour notre réunion familiale annuelle. Vous le lirez dans mes mémoires également.
Aujourd'hui, je suis reconnaissant envers ma famille et mes amis tout autour du monde. Je suis aussi reconnaissant d'être capable de partager avec vous tous Plus De Musique de Coming to America.
Dans cette vidéo des coulisses, je conduis l'orchestre pour la toute fin du mouvement "King's Motorcade". Cette composition (de moi) est également utilisée dans un autre grand film hollywoodien, "Drumline" et a été jouée par le marching band lui-même.

Hier je vous parlais de John Landis me recontactant et combien j'étais heureux d'avoir de ses nouvelles. Le reste de la journée, j'ai beaucoup repensé au temps passé à composer la bande originale de "Coming to America." C'étaient vraiment mes premiers arrangements pour un musique de film et j'en donne d'ailleurs les détails de l'histoire dans mon livre, "Le Freak."
Je voulais encore partager avec vous une autre vidéo des coulisses. Cette fois c'est moi qui conduis l'orchestre pour la grande scène de Dottie.
Je suis certain que vous vous souviendrez de Dottie - le fidèle caniche de Cleo McDowell - quand elle chasse Darryl Jenks, le "Prince de Soul-Glo".

Avec Eddie Murphy en tournée des boîtes de nuit dans les années 80 après avoir terminé Coming to America
La Vie est Pleine de Surprises. La semaine passée j'ai reçu une lettre mystérieuse pendant mon séjour à Londres lors d'interviews pour mes mémoires Le Freak, et aujourd'hui j'ai reçu un email de cette même personne. Les deux m'ont fait rire. Ils provenaient de John Landis, le réalisateur de la vidéo de Michael Jackson "Thriller" et de "Coming to America" le film d'Eddie Murphy. Ce dernier étant le premier film pour lequel j'ai signé les arrangements musicaux. J'étais très content d'avoir de ses nouvelles. L'histoire du succès de Coming to America est décrit dans mon livre.
Mon studio d'enregistrement chez Paramount était "the place to be". Dans une seule journée, James Earl Jones, Oprah Winfrey, Apollonia, Paula Abdul et plein d'autres artistes pouvaient y passer, mais le coeur du studio était les musiciens et la musique. Merci John de m'avoir offert cette chance, et de m'avoir écrit - c'est deux fois. La Vie est toujours Pleine de Surprises.

Quand j'ai commencé The CHIC Organization avec Bernard Edwards, c'était avant l'utilisation massive des sub-woofers. Pour accentuer les fréquences basses, on accentuait la grosse caisse et la guitare basse un peu plus que dans les disques pop. C'est une technique R&B old school qui m'a bien servi jusqu'à aujourd'hui.
J'ai beaucoup pensé à Bernard ces derniers temps et à ce que nous avons fait. Tout a commencé avec notre premier disque de CHIC "Everybody Dance." Nous avons appris à garder Cette Claque de Basse.

La fin de ma marche matinale
Tôt ce matin, je me suis baladé dans l'air vivifiant. En partant, je me suis retourné et j'ai vu les reflets du Soleil Levant sur ma maison. Je ne sais pas pourquoi ils m'ont fait penser à Bernard Edwards, mon ancien partenaire et co-fondateur de The CHIC Organization. Il est décédé il y a quinze ans. Plus tôt cette année, la chaîne japonaise WOWOW a réalisé un documentaire sur moi dont une partie importante traitait de la mort de Bernard, au Japon, connu comme le pays du Soleil Levant.

Chère e-Famille, je vous aime tous très fort. Vos pensées, prières et vos conseils m'aident dans mon combat contre le cancer, mais j'ai été éloigné de ma guitare d'entraînement pendant deux semaines. C'est une Epiphone ES-295 qui était propriété de la scène de Brodway pour "Grease" avant que je ne l'acquière. Je l'aime aussi et elle m'a vraiment manqué. Je serai de retour en vitesse pour le blog demain, mais tout ce que j'ai envie de faire c'est de jouer de Ma Guitare Ce Soir.

Aujourd'hui je quitte l'Angleterre pour rentrer à la maison pour quelques jours. Je serai bientôt en tournée avec Seal, Alison Moyet, et Stanfour.
Nous jouerons en Allemagne, avec Aida - Night of the Proms. J'ai déjà joué avec Night of the Proms Orchestra, je me sens en famille, en fait, vous les voyez à la fin de mon Video Bio Clip.
J'ai voyagé énormément depuis que je suis enfant et j'aime me considérer comme un citoyen du monde. Depuis que j'ai été attaqué par le cancer l'an passé et que j'ai commencé ce blog, je me sens encore plus proche des gens partout dans le monde. Peu importe où je vais, je l'impression que Je Rentre A La Maison.

Vue de ma chambre d'hotel au petit matin
Je me suis levé très tot ce matin pour rencontrer un réalisateur/producteur qui était en ville pour un tournage, et qui a lu mes mémoires, "Le Freak." On a parlé de faire un film sur ma vie.
A un moment il me demande: "Est-ce que quelqu'un a tourné un film amateur sur vous avant que vous ne devieniez CHIC?" J'ai répondu, "Il y a quelques semaines j'ai vu des vidéos de moi jouant dans un groupe qui aurait pu devenir CHIC. C'est Marrant Que Vous Demandiez Cela."
